things i'm gonna do (G)
A seriously gorgeous drawing of Regulus with the locket. I mean like wow.

Snack (PG for silly kissyface)
*sporfle* Yeah. Snack: it's kinda like that.

Severus HBP (G)
Apparently mostly lighting practice, but I like the moody atmosphere and young Severus's (he looks maybe 12-13 to me) morose expression.

The First Wand (G)
G for Good God That's So Cute, that is. Little Lily and Severus getting their wands.

Snape, memories (G)
Just a simple sketch, but I love his melancholy expression, and the shape of his nose is oddly beautiful.

At the Top of the Hill (G)
Severus kneeling on that dark windy hilltop, offering Dumbledore "anything". All the fine lines give this the look of an engraving. His cloak and hair being whipped about in the wind are wonderful.

Boys Night In (NC-17 and very NWS)
Severus/Sirius/James: it tastes better when it's consensual (at least that seems to be the intent). [info]acatnamedeaster has a gift for pleasured facial expressions, I think. I dare you to look at Severus's face and his hand grabbing the sheet and not drool. (Also: Sirius, lol get a hairstylist.)

abandonfic #1

(abandon fic! abandon fic!)

Title: By Starlight
Pairing: Severus/Sirius; extremely slight hint of past Severus/Regulus if you squint.
Rating: PG
Word count: ~2300
Summary: After an Order meeting, Sirius presents Severus with an unusual gift that seems to have more than one purpose.
Warnings: None

Why I give up: This is just an unexciting idea. The plot device is contrived and the whole thing just falls really flat. Treads close to being an astronomy lesson rather than a story. Trivia: this is the fic in regards to which many, many moons ago I posted a question, "Would you know what a planisphere is without looking up the word?" If you didn't know, you're about to find out.

Stowing this for future use. [info]ariadneelda says:

Oh, and this: "Why couldn't Black have hidden in Snape's office, eh? He could have finished him off for us!" (Ron after Snape gave him a nasty detention. PoA, Grim Defeat chapter.)

Please tell me there's fic out there for that! It could be an excellent Snack. :D

The Failure of the Snack

Bah. [info]drachenmina, I fail at birthday present. Between two attempts I've written nearly 10,000 words and it all just rambles and wanders and blithers and never fucking goes anywhere. There's some snappy lines but overall it's just so blah and contrived. So I give up. This is supposed to be fun, not brain surgery.

ETA: What is "fail" about these is not that they are bad (although they are rough and, obviously, not even complete narratives), but that neither attempt got anywhere near my goal of "ficlet for a birthday present".

Herewith I present what is basically one huge outtake:

Not-a-title: The Failure of the Snack (A Tragedy in Two Parts)
Pairing: Severus/Sirius
Rating: R
Warnings: Obviously, a lack of beta and lack of Britpick; *koff-koff* percent dumb-Yankee-trying-too-hard-with-the-Britishisms by volume; lack of originality (in the form of re-using a wrist grab from one fic in the other and talking about Severus being made of ice).

Fit the First: Sirius transforms to Padfoot for the first time, but he has a most undesirable witness to the occasion. )
Fit the Second: A Slug Club party is a detention? Sure it is, if you're Sirius Black. )

Mon, Jun. 9th, 2008, 10:27 pm

[info]drachenmina, I don't know if maybe you figured this out, but the recalcitrant Snack fic I was referring to in this post was supposed to be yours for your birthday. There's just no way it's going to be done in time. I've only been managing about half as fast as I would have needed to do, and to top it off I lost a chunk of time to a fire alarm incident at work tonight. Here's a sampler, though, as a kind of apology: Read more... )

come on, bonk already!

*thumps Snack drabble series*

Actually I think it has turned into a regular fic aside from the "one prompt per hundred words" factor (I'm using the [info]fanfic100 table), since most of the "drabbles" fail to stand alone and long series is long, but that's not the problem.

The problem is the boys just don't want to play. I've only just managed to get one of them to so much as wank over the other and it's 4800 words already.

Is there a lust potion in the house?

For to see Mad Sev o' Bedlam...

Lately I have been having strange ideas of not-exactly-songfic (which is a format I generally loathe), but inspired-by-song-fic, which would in some way be thematically related or if possible take the plot of a song and use it as a framework for the plot of the fic. All well and good for things like The Cure, but this morning while I was making breakfast, I had "Mad Maudlin's Search for Her Tom of Bedlam" in my head (aka "Bedlam Boys").

For to see Mad Tom of Bedlam,
Ten thousand miles I've travelled.
Mad Maudlin goes on dirty toes,
For to save her shoes from gravel

Somehow got turned into an AU where Sirius and Severus had been in Azkaban together for some period of time, and just as it did no good for Sirius's full sanity, so it wore away at Severus's as well. But then Severus was released for whatever reason, and later on, Sirius escaped in the canonical way, perhaps even for the canonical reason. In any event he was then "Mad Maudlin" seeking "Mad Tom", i.e. Severus (not literally by those names; it would have been more like allegory) and was even doing so "on dirty toes for to save his shoes", i.e. as Padfoot.

Still I sing bonny boys, bonny mad boys,
Bedlam boys are bonny,
For they all go bare, and they live by the air,
And they want no drink nor money.

That came with an image of a scene where Severus is standing naked on a balcony, looking out over a view, refusing to eat or drink or in fact even speak, hugging his arms to himself but otherwise paying no apparent heed to the cold wind as it whips his hair around and chills his flesh; and when Sirius comes upon him the only response he gets is an unfocused gaze from dark eyes empty not from being a cold and cruel person, but like mourning something beautiful that was lost.

(Or if it was not beautiful then at least it was mine, and they took it from me... but... what did they take? I can hardly remember... And there even is not much "I" to do the remembering... but the wind, the wind tells me other things to fill that place...)

Yeah. Um. That's just an image I find very compelling.

Anyway, what else could be squeezed out of it, I don't know. Translating some of the rest of it into Potterverse plot would actually take eerily little work now that I look at a verse collection. But I just don't think I have the chops to write such a thing.

I slept not since the Conquest,
Till then I never waked,
Till the roguish boy of love where I lay
Me found and stript me naked...

random Severus/Sirius fragment, hard R (or: The Strange Case of the Use of "Slut")

Uh. This began as an example of "a situation in which I would find the use of the word 'slut' acceptable", for a listing of kinks and anti-kinks. Of course the first example that came to mind was a sarcastic use from Severus directed at Sirius. At first I just described it, but...Read more... )

on writing Severus/Sirius and some general character analysis

[info]raisin_gal: I mean, with Sirius long gone and now Severus dead, Snape/Black fodder is so thin on the ground to begin with... I'd clutch at any straw, at this point, but your idea just sounds so fantastic.

[info]aras_fixation: Unfortunately it is. Lots slashers either tend taking the easy route, sticking to short PWPs with hate sex. Or to their but-they-hate-each-other thesis and then turning toward more easy pairings.

ETA: Writing Snape/Black is a challenge. It often requires from the writer to like both characters in equal way, see all their strengh and weaknesses all at once, while keeping this all in ballance. Not an easy task, since most of the writers are, on a personal level, deeply emotionaly involved either with Severus *or* Sirius to keep themselves in check during their writing.

[info]esmestrella: Apparently can pontificate. )

additional, which I didn't want to ETA when I'd already gone on quite long enough in a hijacked thread )

fic: How Not to Shut Up Severus Snape (Severus/Sirius, PWP, NC-17)

Happy birthday, [info]nehalenia!

There's no way anything I could write would compare to any of your fics that I have drooled over, but I hope this Snack I made for you is satisfying anyway. (I used real butter, not margarine! But perhaps a little too much, er, vanilla.)

Title: How Not to Shut Up Severus Snape
Pairing: Severus/Sirius; implied Severus/Regulus
Genre: PWP
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 6731
Summary: Almost a year after leaving school, Sirius sneaks back into 12 Grimmauld Place to get some things he left behind. He meets someone he did not expect, who says some things he did not expect, and then does some things he really did not expect.
Warnings/contains: Hallway sex, dirty talk, abuse of em-dashes, lack of Britpicking, a few cracky lines in an overall non-humour fic, timeline assumptions that may not be well-supported by canon, and a way to deal with post-sex mess that would not be approved by Better Homes and Gardens.
Betaed extremely fast by: [info]alwaysasnapefan and coyotegoth . Thanks dudes! *serves you beverages and nibbles of choice*

Sirius quietly closed the door to his bedroom and silently looked up and down the hall. It would be just what he needed, running into Kreacher at this hour of the night after breaking into his own house... )

fic rec: If This Be Madness (Severus/Sirius, smut/horror, NC-17)

If This Be Madness by sweetmelodykiss

2100 words, warnings: "Dark fic, bottom Snape, non-con, breath play, bondage, torture, but not too graphic, kind of a happy ending." As she notes, the "bad stuff" isn't described in great detail.

This is surreal and haunting and wrong and broken and beautiful. I've called it "horror" just for a lack of any other genre to apply; it's also a twisted kind of hurt/comfort.

At night, Sirius’ dreams swell with images of sex, violence and strangulation. Sirius has considered using a knife, but he hates the sight of blood. Strangling would be so much cleaner and he wouldn’t have to see any gore. Unforgivables are just too impersonal for Sirius’ taste. He’s more of a hands on kind of guy. He wants to look his victim in the eye while he’s choking the life out of him.

The light gradually ebbing out of black eyes, pulse slowing into nothingness, body going limp beneath him. If this be madness, Sirius no longer cares.

But that's not quite what happens. I was smiling at the turning point and it really is kind of a happy ending, albeit still in that shattered-mirror way.

On the advice of [info]coyotegoth (which conflicted with [info]alwaysasnapefan's but was more what I was leaning towards to begin with) I am editing out some of the crackier bits, trying to keep the wit where possible, but saying it with less goofiness. For your entertainment, here are the outtakes that didn't make it. ("...eat wool until he shat jumpers", as already mentioned, stayed in. ;) )

---

The Royal Society of Things Sirius Wanted to Hear from Severus Snape seemed to have taken on some surprising new fellows in the past few minutes, including a sizable contingent which weren't even proper words and ought by all rights to have been denied membership in such an exclusive organization.

---

...which was performed with a speed that a striking cobra would have thought marked a contender to look out for when it came time for the next round of promotions.
([info]coyotegoth thought this was Douglas Adams-esque, which is high praise, although not so suitable for this fic.)

---

"Uhn--!" Sirius said, as his knees made a snap decision to transition to liquid phase.

dear little fic, please oh please don't be made of fail.

The Snack ficlet I asked for betas for the other day totally failed to be a lightweight, smutty little morsel. It came out at ~6800 words, which is by a long shot the longest fic I have ever completed. It's almost triple the next contender* and over 3.5 times the next one that I have actually posted anywhere.

It was also written incredibly fast, for me, since I only started it on the 11th, I think. I am regularly in awe of how people can get down more than a thousand words at all, never mind over a short space of time. 10k+ really makes my jaw drop. If I get any ideas in the first place, I run out of them long before I fill up that kind of column inches.

Anyway, it's with said betas now, but I am still chewing my nails. Not over what they might say, but over the idea that I might have been entirely wasting my time. more angst inside! )

Thu, Mar. 13th, 2008, 02:53 pm

I'm in the process of scrambling to try to write a ficlet for... um... nefarious secret purposes. If I manage to get it done in the next couple of days, would anyone be able to beta it and be able to get it back to me by Monday? Severus/Sirius, PWP.

eta: Thanks [info]alwaysasnapefan!

art recs: Young Snape; some comics (mostly gen, G-PG)

Young Snape (ca. 11-12 I'd say) by kykywka

O.O... XD

So sweet, the serious lil' thing. (Although actually he looks rather at ease, there -- not scowling or anything.)

I swear, ickle!Severus is the only child in the world that actually evokes maternal ideas in me. And the really soppy "mama's little prince" (*koff*) sort, too, that lead to children getting very spoiled. :P

She also draws fun comics, like Harry Potter and the Seething Snape and Goblet of Fire pajama party.

Severus and Sirius: Yearbook by wotchertonks7

"Sirius just can't behave, even for Yearbook photos and Severus can only take so much. Yes, that's Remus as the pervy voyeur."

Endurance (Severus/Sirus, PG-13)

Title: Endurance
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Severus/Sirius
Prompt: [info]snape100 #211 Birthday gifts
Word count: 100

"Mmm. More. Harder."

Sirius grunted with the effort. "Severus, I--"

"Shut up. More, I said. --Oh, oh yes. Like that."

Not that Sirius didn't enjoy hearing Severus reduced to such babble, but he was exhausted, damn it. "Severus, my hands are cramping."

"You should have thought of that before you offered this as a birthday gift."

"Maybe you're young enough to do this six times a day, but I--"

"We're the same age, mutt. And six times a day? Who has the time? --More to the left. Ohhh, yesssss..."

Now Sirius knew why he'd never seen Severus's hair properly clean.

fic rec: Fiat Lux (Severus/Sirius, NC-17)

Anyone who knows from Severus/Sirius probably knows this, but --

Fiat Lux by imkalena . I was "just skimming it" so as to see what categories would be best to place it in in my memories, and then there I was, many minutes later, simply captivatedly reading it, extra-despite the fact that I already had it saved off her own website and therefore had read it at least once before.

Yeah. That. That thing over there.

Sorry; have you seen my coherency? I seem to have misplaced it.

(Did you get that thing that I sent you?)

fic: Severus/Sirius dialogue-let (humour, PG-13)

More unexpected randomness in comments on others' fic:

I love this dialogue-only style. I don't think I could do it. It's actually harder to convey descriptive things without sounding rather forced.

...*blinks*

"Are you sure about that? Snape and I probably have some perfectly awful things we could say to one another. You'd enjoy it."

"Black, don't startle her like that. She's spilled enough things on her keyboard without your unsubtle help. However, as astonishing as this is, Ms. Forest, he is correct."

"Snape, put that eyebrow down. This isn't the news of the century."

"Um, fellas, I'm just not sure..."

"Well, Greasy and I will be in the bedroom if you need us."

"I suppose you think that wink was supposed to be charming and rakish, Black."

"It's always worked before. Or is that not your hand on my arse right now?"

(Sirius, ilu ^_^ So self-centered and cocksure.)
