Free for the Girls by lorena_snape. R, 100 words, angsty. Just a drabble about sixth-year Severus, but it's so heartbreaking. I can't say any more about this without revealing too much (about me, or about the drabble? mmm, more the former I think...). Professor Grunge by bohemianspirit. PG-13, ~4000 words, humour/satire/AU. Upon graduating from Hogwarts, Severus pursues an employment opportunity in the northwestern United States, with somewhat unexpected results."Grunge" does in fact have something to do with grunge rock, but I'd rather not give it away. ;) bohemianspirit also tacked on an unusual "warning" that made me laugh: "Severus Snape gets to have a HAPPY LIFE!!!" *snicker* ya gotta warn for that now, do ya? What Harry Loves by potion_lady. Severus/Harry, hard R, ~1500 words, romantic/sexual/sensual. (Very sensual, in fact.) Harry loves everything about his lover.Mmmmmm, taaasty descriptions, yesss precioussss. ...Yeah, I think that's plenty of reason to read this. Escape from the Shrieking Shack by ellid. PG, 100 words, action (?). I say "action" because it's done in fragmentary, rapid-fire phrases that take place over just a few seconds of time. A little morsel that made me go "woo-hoo!"

things i'm gonna do (G) A seriously gorgeous drawing of Regulus with the locket. I mean like wow.Snack (PG for silly kissyface) *sporfle* Yeah. Snack: it's kinda like that. Severus HBP (G) Apparently mostly lighting practice, but I like the moody atmosphere and young Severus's (he looks maybe 12-13 to me) morose expression. The First Wand (G) G for Good God That's So Cute, that is. Little Lily and Severus getting their wands. Snape, memories (G) Just a simple sketch, but I love his melancholy expression, and the shape of his nose is oddly beautiful. At the Top of the Hill (G) Severus kneeling on that dark windy hilltop, offering Dumbledore "anything". All the fine lines give this the look of an engraving. His cloak and hair being whipped about in the wind are wonderful. Boys Night In (NC-17 and very NWS) Severus/Sirius/James: it tastes better when it's consensual (at least that seems to be the intent). acatnamedeaster has a gift for pleasured facial expressions, I think. I dare you to look at Severus's face and his hand grabbing the sheet and not drool. (Also: Sirius, lol get a hairstylist.)

And just for larfs, here's two abandoned HP art memes, because, you know, I can't stinkin' draw. Silvercresent11's meme: ( some slightly large pictures )uppuN's meme: ( one more )The "ahem" is because "which" was misspelled as "wich" in the original. A lot of people just scribbled in the "h". I did something a little more involved, as you can see.
Thu, Jul. 31st, 2008, 03:43 pm abandonfic #6: my snapedom summerfest failures

( abandon fic! abandon fic!) Title: (none — for Last Kiss) Characters: Severus/Lily Rating: PG Words: 140 Warnings: None Why I give up: The first stanza was inspired. The rest are just imitations. Trying to carry on poetry like this very rapidly starts sounding very forced. I would never have got this up to 1000 words (the fest minimum). ( Now kiss me again... )Title: (none - for Severus helps Draco brew Elixir of Euphoria) Characters: Severus, Lucius Rating: G Words: 79 Warnings: None Why I give up: I think it's pretty obvious. This is just going nowhere fast. ( I'm going to have to teach this brat... )Title: It's In the Script (for Beltane Rite NC-17, NWS) Characters: Severus mostly; Severus/Harry implied; various combinations of Severus/Harry/Draco also kinda implied Rating: strong PG-13 or soft R Words: ~840 Summary: The course of true dreaming ne'er did run smooth. Warnings: None Why I give up: Normally I have no problem with crack, but this is stupid crack, with a gimmick that only leads to exasperated head-shaking. Totally fails to deliver on smut; I just can't write Severus/Harry, I guess. ( It's In the Script )

Me: So, Severus-storyteller, tell me: if you were in this situation [warning: NWS art], how would you react? *poised to take dictation from the muse* Severus: *pauses thoughtfully* Well, I would say "I'd have a mental breakdown," except for the small fact that if I did find myself in that situation, it could only be because I'd already had one. Me: THAT DOESN'T HELP ME WRITE A STORY KTHX. ... ya jerk. ...Me: *tries to work that line in anyway* (I suppose I could try to write a story where Severus had gone insane well before events resulted in the tableau seen there, but that seems way too long and involved, and a rather too weird interpretation of the picture.)

From burningmark: -Internet sensation Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog reveals that Dr. Horrible has two copies of both Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows, seen in the background in Act Two when he's sitting in his overly large chair of awesomeness.I think magnetic_pole had the right of it. *eyebrow*

Here's another angle on that whole doe Patronus business, taken shamelessly (but with permission) from a (locked) post by lupabitch who was talking about actual animal totems: I don't get why Deer is always associated with gentleness. You don't want to fuck with a deer. Especially a buck at rutting season. And if you're taking "Deer" in a broader sense to mean the entire family, just consider the red deer, the elk, and the moose. Antlers are wicked weapons, and all deer have sharp hooves.
Lots of animals are gentle with their young. Lots of tame or domestic animals can learn to be gentle with humans. But I'm not sure there's any wild animal that's so gentle that it wouldn't bite, kick, or sting the crap out of you if you threatened hir.

A link from snapedom: Really awesome post analyzing Severus's office in the films, including some links to other sites. Includes some alchemy geekery. (This is from Feb 2007 so I apologize if any of you have already seen it.)
Mon, Jun. 23rd, 2008, 05:33 pm giant art rec post of doom (mostly gen, all rated G)
Fic art, Snape/Lily, by winkoutA series of four illustrations for a fic on FFN called Lily's Charm. Someone remarked in the comments that one thing that makes these so great is the body language, and that's spot-on. The sparse colour palette (black/white/grey and a kind of ochre/tan colour) is very nice too; lends them a kind of "sepiatone" quality. My favourite is the third one, where it looks like Lily's just told Severus that they're going to have a son. The way he's holding her body against his and the gentle expression on his face (eyes closed, even) are just amazing. Severus Snape, by thessalyFor a photomanip of one of the promo shots of Rickman!Snape, this is really impressive. The nose and chin are not really what I see in my own head, but the way it is so totally not Alan Rickman anymore is very cool. Lily's Kiss, by sympatexI'd have called this "Severus's Kiss", personally, because he looks like the instigator here. ;) Kissing is very hard to draw, and usually even when well-done I get a kind of "does it really look like that?" kind of feeling. I don't get that at all from this one. The spot where their mouths meet is just perfect. Severus Snape - The Repentant, by panatenshiWoobie!Severus ahoy, including big anime eyes, although he's far from bishie. I'm not sure how old he's supposed to be here; I picture it as ca. 1980. He looks so sad and lonely, and I like the gloomy green and black of the background. Also, I think I have a new fetish: Severus wearing black gloves, as he seems to be doing here. Snivellus by ghn-hitokiriVery quick little sketch; feels "fast" to me, like it was just meant to capture a tiny little moment of expression. Possibly a tad too pretty, but those are what I call some "curtains" of hair! If you insist... by coNstantine2530Long (tall) illustration of the scene in "The Prince's Tale" where Severus is wailing about "I thought you were going to keep her safe" and Dumbles says "oh, but her son survives". I'm not sure why this artist does Severus with only about cheek-length hair (she does it in other works too), and he looks older to me than the 21 years he should be here, but his facial expressions and body language are great. Deatheaters by AcuteCatSeverus and Lucius posing their evol poses. Last one had hair too short? Well, here's too long. (And some unlikely clothing.) But I can't say I'm complaining. Extra-long hair is really rather flattering on him.
Wed, Jun. 18th, 2008, 05:08 pm "mired in adolescence"

Reposted with permission from atdelphi, from this thread in persepolis130's journal. I just thought these were some really insightful comments: Just chiming in as someone who likes to ship Snape with Dumbledore, Filch, McGonagall, Hagrid, or Slughorn. I had to fudge some of my answers - for instance, none of those listed pairings would make me spew, and none of the Lily options really described my view of the relationship (that is to say, looking at the character, I see a difference between how Snape would feel about Lily and how he would think he feels. To me, a defining point of the character is how his position at Hogwarts has kept him mired in his adolescence, living on grudges and wrongs, stunted emotionally and possessing a distorted self-awareness). In short, I think what he's in love with by the end of the series has more to do with ideals, guilt, himself, and lost opportunities than any real woman, but they all go by the name Lily. [emphasis mine]
I've always enjoyed the mirroring in PoA, where we see Snape and Sirius set up as the least mature adults in the series - Snape for his pettiness, Sirius for his recklessness, both for their obsession with the past - and you realise that just as Sirius is emotionally arrested at twenty-one from being locked away at that age, so is Snape. The presence of the Dementors at Hogwarts really needles in that image of Hogwarts as Snape's Azkaban, a place where he's forced to relive his unhappy memories. Then in HBP we get that chilling note of finding out why [emphasis original] Snape keeps asking for the Defence position - because he knows that the Defence professor never comes back the next year.FWIW what she says about "mirroring" with Sirius is one of the reasons I like to ship those two, actually. :)

Can someone explain this to me? http://kira617.deviantart.com/art/Snape-lion-5793809I see lots of joke (?) drawings of Snape as various things, cats, My Little Pony, what-have-you. But this fad (?) for doing him as a Lion King lion seems fairly widespread and I just have no idea what it is all about.

http://lorey.deviantart.com/art/Marauders-picture-83511002I'm not always much for cartoony anime style, but this is really cute. I adore scowling Sev and haughty Lucius in the background (even though this can't really work canonically, I mean by the time Lily was on decent terms with James, Lucius was long gone). Also, squid tentacle. ;) --- http://shire22.deviantart.com/art/Shade-83474924Not quite right for a younger Severus in my head, but I like the broody expression, his hair blowing in the wind, and the aged sepia-tone look to the whole piece. --- http://banane-cuite.deviantart.com/art/We-re-best-friends-aren-t-we-75921934Just a cute Severus and Lily! I bet he doesn't even mind having her chin on his head like that. --- http://prismageek.deviantart.com/art/Young-Severus-25393835I adore Sev's t-shirt in this one. XD

Oh -- oh hi, Severus. And I do mean Severus. And a temporally-impossible Draco (i.e. the same age as Severus, at the same time). And something about Potions I don't really remember but I remember that it happened at all and that's what's important yay!

O HAI SEVERUS! Er, excuse me: Professor Snape.Because that's who finally deigned to visit me two nights/mornings ago. What he was doing at some kind of geek/SFF con I dunno (and yeah, it was him and not some kind of cosplayer; how do I know? Dream omniscience, that "just knowing" you get sometimes, like you'd read the dream's script and got the backstory details) but he didn't seem too happy about it. He came into a room party? con suite? something? where a bunch of us were playing video games, making out, and generally being rowdy, grabbed a snack of some kind, sank into a chair and glowered for a bit, then swept back out, billowing black robes and all. Obviously in A Mood and said nothing to anybody. Really just a walk-on role, but there he was. (Maybe he was con staff and really tired and stressed out. ;) ) As for me, I saw him there and thought it best to leave him alone, felt silly about having a schoolgirl crush on him, and then felt silly about using that phrase and told myself it couldn't be that because I wasn't his student. (We were close in age, which is to say I'm 29 and he was early 30s; more of that dream omniscience). That was kind of a strange dream-thought-loop.
